Silicon Metal

Silicon Metal is obtained by reducing carbotherm from silicon sources, such as quartz, in submerged electric arc furnaces.

Production Process:

The basic raw materials for the production of Silicon Metal are quartz, coal, wood chips and heat source (electric power). The raw materials are selected and classified according to their physical-chemical characteristics. They are properly weighed and sent to the reduction process in Electric Submerged Arc Furnaces.

Inside the Electric Oven, the chemical reactions to reduce quartz by coal happen by inserting electrical power (heat source.) Electric power is introduced into the Electric Oven via a carbon-based electrode.

Silicon Metal is drained from the electric liner in liquid form to  metallurgical pans.

The liquid material is cooled in ingots for solidification, and, subsequently, it is crushed and sieved according to the chemical and physical specification provided by the customer.
